Subterranean termites usually cause damage to Furniture, Woodwork, Window frames, Books, Carpets, Leather Goods and other stored commodities.

They are known as white ants, live in colonies with an assembly of millions. They also damage building constructions entering from ground level to upper level through joints gaps in floors, wall cavities, intersperse of bricks and woodwork. The damages caused by termites are likely to be 35% to 40%.

In highly infested areas, the building can be seriously effected within a short span of construction. The effective and novel approach to providing complete protection is at the time of planning and construction of building.

The best way to control termites is to establish a chemical barrier between termites and the assets. The only alternative is to select and use the quality product L- drint in order to control/minimize/kill the termites.

RECOMMENDED DOSES

Mix 1 litre L-Drint with 19 litre of water to make 1% a.i. emulsion and to be applied in following stage.

Pre Construction Treatment (For New Structure)

Stage 1. (During foundation Preparation)

Apply the emulsion on the bottom surface and sides of foundation pits to the height of 30 c.m. @ 5 litre/sq. mtr. of surface area.

Stage 2. (After Completion of foundation).

On both sides of all built up walls, treat the refill earth (approx. width 30 cm & depth 45 cm) @ 7.5 litre per linear metre.

Stage 3. (Before laying of floor).

The entire leveled surface to be treated @ 5 litre per square meter.

Stage 4. (After completion of building)

Treat the earth along the external perimeter of the building @ 7.5 litre of spray per linear meter.

Post Construction Treatment (For Existing Building)

Make a complete inspection of termite infestation and route of entry into the building. After careful inspection of termites infested area, inject 1% of L-Drint emulsion in the soil which is in contact with the external wall of the building, at the rate of 7.5 litre per sq. Meter up to a depth of 30 cm & 15 cm apart.

Inside the building, drill 12 mm holes at the junction of floor and wall, along with the cracks on the floor, and along constructional joints at 30 cm intervals to reach the soil below. Squirt the emulsion @ 1 litre per hole or till refusal and seal the holes properly with the cement.

Treatment Of Wood Works

Mix 1 litre of L-Drint in 19 litre of kerosin oil/turpentine oil and brush all the surface of the timber. If a termite infestation is there, drill 3 mm holes in existing woodwork with a downward slant. Liberally infuse L-Drint emulsion till refusal. Repeat the same application after drying. For new and replacement timber, dipping overnight in L-Drint kerosin emulsion will ensure deep penetration and better protection against difficult to control wood boring insects such as powder post beetle, pin hole borers, furniture beetle etc. L-Drint is also very commonly used in wood seasoning plants and handicraft industries.

Chlorpyrifos is considered moderately hazardous to humans by the World Health Organization. Exposure surpassing recommended levels has been linked to neurological effects, persistent developmental disorders and autoimmune disorders. Exposure during pregnancy may harm the mental development of children, and most home uses were banned in 2001 in the U.S. In agriculture, it is “one of the most widely used organophosphate insecticides” in the United States, and before being phased out for residential use was one of the most used residential insecticides. On March 29, 2017, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt denied a petition to ban chlorpyrifos.

History

Emamectin, produced by the bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis, belongs to the avermectin family of compounds all of which exhibit toxicity for nematodes, arthropods, and several other pests. The benzoate salt of emamectin in particular has found widespread use as an insecticide and is approved by the EPA for use in prevention of emerald ash borer in ash trees.[5] Emamectin is derived from avermectin B1, also known as abamectin, a mixture of the natural avermectin B1a and B1b. Emamectin has also shown promising applications in the eradication of fish lice and in fish farming.[6] Emamectin was invented by Regina D. Leseota, Pradip K. Mookerjee, John Misselbrook, and Robert F. Peterson Jr. and patented on September 25, 2001, approved August 22, 2002.[7] It was developed as a pesticide by Merck and Company and first marketed back 1997 in Israel and Japan.[8]

Preparation

Emamectin is derived from abamectin by replacement of an epi-amino-methyl (NHCH3) group by a hydroxyl (-OH) group at the 4”-position. Emamectin, like abamectin, is a mixture of two homologue compounds termed B1a and B1b which differ on the C-25 side-chain by one methylene (CH2) group. B1a contains a sec-butyl group while B1b has an isopropyl group. Emamectin is a mixture, typically consisting of 10% B1b and 90% B1a.[9]

Avermectin biosynthesis is classified into three stages: the formation of the polyketide-derived initial aglycone, modification of the initial aglycone to produce avermectin aglycones, and glycosylation of avermectin aglycones to generate avermectins.
